There are several tales about how Kiyohime can to be a dragon. Some are of a woman scorned, some are of a lost love. Some say that Kiyo was a beautiful waitress who worked in a teahouse on the Hidaka riverbank. A visiting priest fell in love with her and she with him, but after a time he overcame his passions (some versions say he lost his passion for her) and refused further meetings. Kiyo became furious and sought revenge. She went to the temple of Kompera to learn the art of magic. After studying for some time she turned herself into a dragon and flew to the monastery where the priest lived. He saw her coming and hid himself under the temple bell. With a great belch of fire, the dragon melted the bell, thereby killing the priest. The Kiyohime Fire Dragon Japanese Traditional Katana is full tang 1090 carbon steel blade that comes sharp and is double pegged. In the traditional katana style the blade has a heavy blood groove down the center while the handle features genuine ray skin with a cotton cord wrap and a cast zinc menuki and tsuba. The tsuka is also wrapped with the same cotton fiber with an ornamental menuki. The fuchi features triple hollyhock emblems and the guard depicts a samurai battle scene. A glossy black wooden scabbard or saya houses the blade to protect it from the elements.
